Are you prepared for Wrath of the Lich King? WoW Insider has you covered!

Image of the Day: Louise, part 2

Image of the Day

Wow. September 1st! I'll skip sharing my cliched thoughts with you about how time goes by so fast, and instead share a lovely photo from momster. I'm sure you remember her posts here at Parent Dish!

We were thinking that September would be a good month to focus on fall colors. I've already seen a few red leaves here and there, and since autumn is my favorite time of year I'm ready to celebrate the changing season.

I chose Irene's photo today because it's strikingly beautiful and I see little clues that autumn is approaching: long sleeves, yellow leaves, soft sunshine.

Image of the Day: running in an oval

Image of the Day

This one made me smile; I love shots that capture kids' personalities. It also reminded me a of a great story my dad likes to tell about a little boy and his mother who he saw at the natural history museum. They stepped outside, the boy holding her hand and bouncing. "Here?" asked the boy. "Not yet," said the mother. They kept walking toward the grass, repeating their question and answer. When they finally got to the lawn, she turned loose of his hand, and he ran in circles until he was red-faced and tired.

"Phew," he sighed as they went back inside.

I have a feeling that the boys in this wonderful shot by Mamabrarian are doing something similar -- getting their fidgets and wiggles out by racing around in circles.

Image of the Day: FISH!

Image of the Day

Today's summery outside shot comes from flickr user Stolidoli. The kids are so thrilled to be catching their first fish, and the way the photo is framed all that action and excitement really come through. There's enough in the photo to tell a story, and I bet even the littlest one will be able to recall this moment when she sees this photo at an older age.

Image of the Day: little fingers and car

Image of the Day

This photo, by flickr user meg29st, is a great example of how wonderful close-ups of kids are. I love photos that so completely capture a moment like this one does. Even though we can't see the boy's face, I can imagine it: he's probably got his lips pressed together so he can make a humming car noise, while looking intently at the wheels on the car as they move thorough the sand.

Next time a child in your life is doing something with their hands (think creating art, reading a book, tying a shoe, holding tightly to a favorite teddy bear) see if you can sneak in a close up of their hands.

Image of the Day: her hand

Image of the Day

My youngest child, Willow, ended up being born at 33 weeks, but she was very nearly born at 26 weeks. The caption under this photo, by flickr user jbonjour, says: 28 week old premie reaches outside her isolette to the world - born 06.16.06 and named Sylvie Blue Bonjour.

It's interesting how most of the picture is a blur, but her hand is so clear. In my experience, when you've got a preemie in the hospital, everything around you, except that feeling that your child needs you, is a blur. This is such a literal interpretation of what that time is like.

The photo was taken last year, so I encourage you to go visit jbonjour's photos to see how Miss Sylvie is thriving. She's amazing and sweet.

Image of the Day: mother and baby

Image of the Day

This gorgeous photo was submitted by flickr user teddy.shen. A+ marks go to its beauty, composition, and use of natural light. The early morning sunshine coming into the top of the frame is reflective of this mother and baby: still, quiet, peaceful, and new. The sweetest details of the foreground, the baby's downy arms, the mother's lovely skin, are in focus against the blurred green of the outside world, touching on the fact that we are viewing a mother and baby's own private world against the backdrop of the bigger one we all share.

Image of the Day: sidewalk & girl

Image of the Day

I recently went to the Chicago Art Institute, where I happily wandered through rooms filled with paintings created over the last several centuries. When I saw this photo, submitted by Liu MinMin, it reminded me of the perspective I saw in many of the paintings. Only here, we've got a sweet little girl with pigtails in the foreground. I love the way she's squatting down: I wonder what's going through her mind. Is she tired from walking all that way? Is she getting ready to blow a kiss to someone?

Image of the Day: cicada stare-off

Image of the Day

O Pish Posh brings us today's Outside-themed photo. I chose this one to share because looking at it reminded me that children see so much beauty, wonder, and interestingness in their surroundings. She looks tickled to be watching this pretty little cicada, and having her unaware of the camera lets us feel like we're getting a true glimpse into her world.

Image of the Day: to catch a bubble

Image of the Day

August already! Many of us are gearing up for the return of school, less daylight, and more time indoors. To celebrate and help us appreciate the outside time we're enjoying now, we decided to make Outside the focus of this month's photos.

No matter how many times I sit on the front step or on a blanket at the park and blow soap bubbles for my kids to chase, it never grows old. Even my practically-eleven-year-old has fun chasing bubbles. This photo stood out to me because it's not posed and it really shows how focused she is on catching a bubble. I also love the dappled light in the background, the abundance of green and blue, and the blurry bubbles -- they look just how you see them in the corner of your eye when you're trying to catch one!

Thanks very much to Lily and her mama for adding this one to the pool!

MetalMeredith added this smoochy photo to our pool. Just look at those cheeks! This photograph is a great example of catching a moment -- a tricky thing to do with little ones. A second earlier, and they wouldn't have been so close; a moment later and he may be chomping on her nose! (kidding!) Thanks for the great picture, Meredith!
