Cool clothes for kids (made by a mom)

From the time I first saw her ad in the back of Bust magazine, I've loved the kid's clothes made by Jennifer at Textile Fetish. I've ordered patchy pants, adorable skirts, and sweet peasant tops for the girls, and a super-cute patchwork apron for myself. We have never been out in public in Textile Fetish clothes without people asking where we got them.
Jennifer uses "mostly reclaimed and recycled materials" in her creations, which are one-of-a-kind. She even has a personal blog, which you can find here.

My mom and I make and design a lot of my children's clothes. There's a picture now on my page, about 3 entries down of some pj's my mom just made for my boys...always matching and they are not twins. We also make and design diaper bags and purses, some out of old blue jeans and some with pictures of the kiddo's on them and always monogrammed! We love it!

I love to sew and make all kinds of clothing. But, even if you are not an expert, it's easy to turn a few pieces of generic clothing into one-of-a-kind creations. My daughters, who are middle and high school age, loved designing their own outfits.
I took a pair of plain Old Navy jeans, used a seam ripper to open the lower leg seams, and sewed in giant triangles of these super cool vintage fabrics I picked up at a garage sale, to make huge bell-bottoms. I added beautiful Indian-design silk ribbon to the side leg seams, waist, and leg cuffs on another pair of jeans. It was a really fun thing for us to do together.
I own a Hotfix machine, which permanently affixes rhinestones to fabric. When the next slumber party was organized, I called the other moms and had each girl bring a plain baby tee in any color they wished. I showed them how to make a template for the design they wanted on the shirt. I helped them set the rhinestones, and let them do the press. They loved it! Most of them chose my "Princess", "Diva", and "French Kitty" designs, but a few did their own thing. It was such a simple thing, but the kids were just over the moon because they felt like they were little fashionistas :-)

I love all the unique clothes that are coming out for children now! And, I am pleased to hear that Mom's are designing a lot of them! Some really cute designers I love are Biscotti, Flowers by Zoe, and, the Urban Smalls collection! I would love to see more!

I love her stuff and I also make/design clothes as well. My oldest is dying to learn so I'll sign her up this year at the local sewing shop. I can't wait to see what she comes up with!
