Another auto theft -- but this time, the perpetrator is eight years old

From the Merced Sun Star: Police have
reported in that an eight-year-old boy stole his teacher's minivan from school and drove it home.According to the article, the little boy stole his teacher's car keys from her purse when her back was turned, and after school, drove her Dodge Caravan "several blocks but less than a mile" to his home.
Apparently, the boy made it home without hitting anything or hurting anyone, parking the car on the street, and then going inside his house.
Jeez.
Okay, a couple of questions:
1) How in heaven's name discipline a kid for grand theft auto? 'Cause I'm thinkin' that the "Naughty Corner" won't quite cut it on this one; and
2) If you've stolen a car at the age of 8, what the heck will you be doing when you're a teenager?
(Thanks to Ann for the tip.)

Okay, forgive me, I would never make light of this in front of a child, because I would never encourage behavior like this, but my inner child couldnt help but giggle a little here. I know it was dangerous and it should never be done, but it made me think of a really mean teacher I used to have. She had this really nice sporty 2 seater in middle school and I wanted so bad to drive it around the far side of the woods across the street, just to see her freak out. As for appropriate punishment...I have no idea how you would approach this.

I giggled when I first saw it too - it does have its funny side. Even the police thought it was funny (while they were taking it seriously as they must).
How did he reach the pedals and see out the windshield at the same time?
I'll keep an eye on the local paper for updates.
