Now that I'd finished page 4, "Spreading the News," of Alex's life book, the theme of page 5, "Christening," seemed only appropriate.  When Alex was about 2 months old, she was christened at a local Episcopalian cathedral.  To be honest, I included this page not just because of its religious significance, but also because this was the day that Alex met two of the people my husband Marcus and I value the most in our lives:  Kate, Marcus' sister, who serves as Alex's godmother, and Mark, my best friend, who is Alex's godfather.  Kate had flown in to Houston from England for the honours, and Mark from Toledo, Ohio, so the event was particularly special.

In creating the page, I chose a few pictures:  one, a portrait of Alex with Kate; the second, a portrait of Alex with Mark.  I included some candid shots from the day as well.  And finally, I included a photograph I had of Patrick, a close friend who also happened to be the priest who performed the baptism.

Clearly, not ever adoptive family has a christening for their child; however, when creating a life book, I'd recommend including a page depicting the introduction of your child to particularly special people in her life.  It's my hope that when Alex is an adult and has a strong relationship with her Uncle Mark and Auntie Kate (as she already seems to have, despite being separated by great distance), she'll look at this page with great fondness.
