The magazine Fit Pregnancy has released a list of what it has determined to be the best places in America to have a baby by examining 47 criteria including fertility services, maternal and infant health risk, access to hospitals and doctors, safety, affordability, stroller friendliness, and birthing options.

Not surprising at all: Portland, Oregon, home of Blogging Baby's Queen Bee Sarah Gilbert and former home of our own Stefania Butler was named No. 1,  based primarily on its low maternal mortality rate, above average number of obstetrician-gynecologists, and small number of low-weight births, not to mention the thousands of Californians who have moved there for the sole purpose of having children.

The rest of the top five cities were Boston, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Denver, so most of the rest of us Blogging Baby chumps can be proud. (Seattle came in at No. 6). Detroit, home of Melissa Summers, ranked 48th, or almost-as-bad-as-Vegas. Sorry Karen, Trinidad wasn't on the list. Probably because it actually is paradise.
